This page will give information about how my classroom works. I will add to this as the year progresses - again this website is still under construction. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Homework
Students may not come home with homework and most of the time, that is ok! I do not typically assign work to students on the way out of the door, however, they will be expected to complete work that they did not finish in class at home. This requires your student to be responsible for finishing up any unfinished work on their own, which should be indicated in their planner. I do my best to give students enough time daily to finish work up. As long as students use their time wisely, it is possible that they may never bring home any homework. If at any time you wonder if they should be bringing work home, please email me and I will be happy to let you know! If your student brings work home for math every night, let me know - that might be a red flag indicating class time is not being used well or may not understand the work they are being asked to complete!
Weekly Computation Worksheets
Students will receive a computation worksheet at the beginning of every week, that will be due at the end of every week. The worksheet is based on areas in computation that I believe most students need extra practice on. When completing these worksheets, I expect students to show ALL of their work, to not use a calculator, and to complete the worksheet themselves showing all work as they go. If they struggle, please help them at home or encourage them to come in and get extra help. I rarely give time in class for students to work on this, so they need to find time to complete it.
Weekly Quizzes
Students will take a quiz every Friday. The quiz will cover skills and material that we worked with that current week in class. I will never put any new concepts from the Thursday before on the quiz, but I do consider anything that we worked on Monday - Wednesday to be "fair game." Students can use their math binders on the quiz, so notes and homework will be accessible, but will not always be permitted to use a calculator.
